Weather station owners can connect to the network to share their local microclimate weather details and access hyper-local weather information from all over the world. Their network currently has over 250K stations. Their app makes use of this detailed weather station network to provide the closest weather information possible to your location.

CARROT weather app includes many weather details with unique visuals that are customizable in the premium version of the app. It features an AI ‘personality’ and gamified achievements to help personalize and promote more app usage. One of its features valued most by growers is the detailed hourly forecast graph which plots temperature, ‘feels like’ temperature, precipitation change, precipitation amount, wind speed, wind gusts, UV index, humidity, dew point, cloud cover, visibility and pressure.

WeatherBug is useful for growers because of the large amount of information available on the main screen. It features weather news, severe weather alerts, radar, air quality information, fire updates and more. It is more customizable with the paid version including allowing for more view and alert options and has more alert notification options for users in the USA and Mexico. In our review of the app, we also noticed some increased setting options on Android over iOS.

Apple Weather is the default weather app for iOS devices and is favored by growers in part for its ability to add many locations that can be easily viewed by swiping through and for its display of the average daily weather information compared to now. The app benefits from Apple’s vast resources to ensure consistent app updates and smooth use. Apple has bought a few independent weather apps over the years, including Dark Sky. and has integrated some of their features into the default iOS weather app.

It includes several map view options including precipitation radar, road conditions, wind maps and cloud cover, all of which can be helpful to plan upcoming on-farm and shipping activities.

The Weather Channel app is similar to the Weather Network app but has many more languages supported. It contains multiple map layers including radar, wind, temperature and road conditions. It allows anchoring a location as well as default views to the current device location. It included an hourly plotting of temperature, ‘feels like’ temperature, wind, humidity, dew point, pressure and UV index.

AccuWeather is one of the higher-rated weather apps that has been valued by growers for its data visualization and accuracy. It has minute-by-minute radar information making it useful for growers to time activities and ensure they can protect their crops as much as possible before severe weather hits. It also helpfully displays the daily average and temperature at this time last year. It does contain pop-up ads in the free version which may prompt users to go with the paid version to avoid delaying accessing information.
