Crop management software Croptracker has been named a recipient of a grant awarded by Bioenterprise Corporation and Innovation Guelph to support the development of an innovative new software project. The grant, funded by the federal government, aims to support high-potential businesses with projects poised to improve the agriculture and agri-food sectors in Ontario.
Croptracker was developed in 2006 by Kingston-based firm Dragonfly IT to solve the problems of Ontario growers and continues to be shaped by grower input as it expands around the world. Today growers, associations, and co-operations of all sizes use Croptracker to execute and monitor their harvest, schedule and track their chemical usage, cut operational costs associated with supervision and auditing, enhance their traceability and food safety, and make more informed decisions for their operations. Most recently, Croptracker has been implemented by New Zealand's largest vertically-integrated apple exporter, Mr Apple.

This support will allow us to commit a dedicated development team to the project, thereby expanding its scope and ensuring the benefits are delivered to growers much sooner than anticipated," says Matt Deir, Dragonfly IT's founder and CEO. Bioenterprise Corporation selected Southwestern Ontario businesses from a variety of sectors including agriculture and agri-food, sustainable and environmental technology, advanced manufacturing, and social innovation. The recipients will benefit from a total of $30,000 in non-repayable seed financing funded by the federal government, as well as coaching and mentorship provided by Bioenterprise Corporation.
